3 types of tapioca leaves

today, while walking from zhenghua park connector towards the bukit timah nature reserve, i chanced upon one type of tapioca plant which i have not seen before. it has elongated leaves. tapioca leaves - those with the red stalks - can be eaten but leave the other types of leaves alone because they may be toxic.

this is another type of tapioca leaves which i have seen before but i did not get to see them today.

We used to plant tapioca (just a few plants) and eat the steamed topioca with gula melaka. Bought some from market recently to let me children try. They didn't like it. And my Indo maid said, what we paid was enought to buy 1 sack back home!

i had a similar experience with my daughters. i enjoyed eating steamed tapioca with white sugar, so i prepared some for my two girls and my wife. i ended up eating most of it.
they prefer the thai tapioca dessert that comes with coconut milk.

It's really quite interesting how the tastes of our generation differs from those of our children. Once during Chinese New Year gathering we had different types of ice creams being served. The old generation went for the Potong - rectangular shaped with long stick; especially the red beans. But the youngsters went for the modern tub type.
