school of logistics (sol)

for 36 years, the school of logistics (sol) was at this place. the school of logistics moved to its new home at kranji camp iii on 18 mar, 2008. this morning, when i visited the old site, the bulldozers and excavators were busy at work. in time to come, the big sign at the gate will be gone.

looks like quite a lot of space and a number of buildings will be cleared to make way for the new industry in this part of singapore.

where is this place?

ang sar lee, you are right. it is seletar air base. i remember in the earlier days, it was quite a hassle to move in and out of the base.

YG, I don't know how far back you mean by "earlier days" but up to the late '70s, there were those SZ cars outside the main gate which you can take to go in if you are in a hurry. Another way was to wait for bus 214E or 214W.

YG, did you see any remnants of the School of Manpower (SMP) which, if I remember correctly, was located in Seletar camp as well. I attended a typing course and a clerical course at SMP when I was serving my NS as a clerk in CMPB in the mid 70s.

ang sar lee, i did not venture into the base until i picked up golf and played in a tournament at the base. i was not aware of the sz cars service and i had never taken a bus around seletar.

victor, to be honest with you, i was quite lost at seletar air base. i was moving in circles, from the oval to maida vale, to hyde park gate, to picadilly.
no, i did not see the smp.

Ang Sar Lee, bus 214E and 214W has been replaced by 103 and 103M respectively. They start and end at Serangoon Interchange now. If you are in no hurry, they are a good way to see what is left of Jalan Kayu and Seletar before more development sets in. A good way to use your senior citizen ez-link card :-)
