what name to give to this tree?
in the plant kingdom, hybrids created by crossing one species of palm with another is not uncommon. but a cross between a coconut palm and a ficus tree, that is unheard of.
what name should be given to this tree? it has the trunk of a coconut tree but the foliage is that of a ficus tree. i am not sure of the variety of the ficus.
this tree caught my eyes as i was stuck behind a line of vehicles waiting for the light to change just before the train crossing at kranji.

kranji road, just after the malaysian railway track (ktm), on your right if you approach from woodlands road. you cannot get too close to the tree because of the fence.
i think this is what happened. the dead coconut tree had no top, some bird or whatever dropped the seed or young plant at the top and it flourished.
