what building was here?

what was the building that was here before it had to be demolished to make way for the expansion of the national museum of singapore?

drama centre; formerly known as the cultural centre

surely, most people can still remember because it happened less than a decade ago.

the original building was built in 1955 and was known by a different name. it was officially opened by the late mr david marshall.

I think I know the answer. Is it the Drama Centre.

I am afraid, if this were an exam, I would be guilty of cheating because I checked an old street directory. I think this question is quite tough becos this building is not very prominent and not near to a main road.

I have been to the drama centre before but it was more than 20 years ago. And since this building is away from the main road, I seldom see it when driving past this area.

Fort Canning Cultural Center before it was called Drama Center (called Drama Center after National Theater was built). Seems that LKY never liked this after self-independence bcos reminded of LIm yew Hock achievement. So national Theater was created.
