three weddings in three countries

they say a wedding is an expensive affair. wait till you have an international wedding and you will know how expensive it can get. imagine having three wedding receptions, having to pay for at least beauticians, three videographers, three photographers, printing of three sets of invitation cards, floral arrangements for three wedding venues, decorating three bridal cars and getting down to deal with lots of nitty gritty stuff. and it took me away from blogging as i had to be at all three weddings.

my elder girl, ivy married ian, a kuching boy. the first round of celebrations took place in kuching on 19 september. we had to fly in one day earlier. the wedding entourage from singapore were accommodated in seven rooms at the four points sheraton hotel in kuching. we were hosted to lunch at the heritage restaurant in town and a 9-course chinese dinner at the hotel's ballroom.

we flew back to singapore one day after the kuching's wedding reception. the wedding party from the groom's side stayed at the four seasons hotel where the second wedding reception was held. because the date was so close to the f1 race, they had to pay nearly double for their stay in the hotel.

the final round was held in melbourne where ivy and ian, the bride and groom, are living and working. it was a garden party held up in the dandenong mountains. the tulips were in bloom and so they went to the tesselaar tulip farm for some photo shoots. the ceremony was conducted in a small chapel, where most of the guests had to stand throughout the slightly more than an hour programme.

No wonder, YG, i thot u went AWOL or MIA. Best wishes to the couple. I like the "international idea" of celebration. Your second round of NS coming soon I am sure. This time you must fly there and do duty.

One of the greatest joys in life for parents is see their children get married and start their own families. CONGRATULATIONS!

phil, there were a few guests from the other states in australia. ivy's cousin flew in from sydney. another couple - from the groom's side - drove from sydney to melbourne. another family, two adults and three children, took 10 hours to drive from adelaide to melbourne. i think the melbourne wedding was more meaningful for the newly weds because it was attended by their own friends and colleagues.

>"We were hosted to lunch at the heritage restaurant."

Wow, even when in Kuching also cannot forget about heritage. Sure sign of a diehard heritage blogger.

My heartiest congrats to YG and the newly married couple!

Next time (say for 2nd daughter) can hold wedding on-line mah. Can put wedding ceremony on YouTube. Guests can download their own photos. They also give you virtual hongbaos. Can save money for everyone?

Luckily you have explored most of Singapore before the stork arrives, haha.

Congratulations on your "thousand gold"'s wedding.

I wonder how Ian went through all the obstacles put up by Ivy's sisters? Even if the sisters went kuching, where was the fort? Sheraton hotel? haha.

icemoon, the 'obstacles' were staged. the groom and his mates were made to eat a concoction of sausage bread stuffed with bittergourd, chilli, margarine, honey and i do not know what else. anyway, no crude or suggestive acts. i think the amount of money in the red packet was an agreed sum.

victor, my next posting will confirm my status - a heritage blogger.

Mr Ong, Congratulations to you, your daughter, Ivy and son in law.

Ha. I really thought u MIA for these few days since no updates in your blog post. hehe.

Btw, did you recieved my message in your Facebook on "Omar Road"??

yg said...

thks, guan kiat. i don't remember receiving anything about omar road.

kiatsan said...

Oic. I think it is inside your Inbox of your facebook (FB). Nevermind, I will ask it here. Below is my message to you in FB

Do you know where is Omar Road in your old street directory?

Where is the exact location??

1 of my friends was asking me about this road which her friend used to live. I am not able to find it in online street directory, but I can find it inside in the link below:

http://www.a2o.com.sg/a2o/public/search/index.html

Hope you can enlighten me or maybe write a blog post on that. hehe :)

guan kiat, omar road was joined to canal road which continued as upper pickering street. it was parallel to keng cheow st. there was a mosque (mesjid melaka) between omar road and keng cheow st. i do't know if the mosque is still around. the other end of omar road was merchant road.

Hi Mr Ong,

Thanks. Just to confirm.
Is Omar Road now named as "New Market Road" which I found in the latest street directory?

In between Keng Cheow St and New Market Road, I can find a name "Masjid Omar Kampong Melaka"

yg said...

guan kiat, keng cheow st has remained in situ but new market road could have been the result of some road alignment made to omar road. yes, the mosque could be the one at the same site.
