where are these 2 blocks of flats?
the two blocks of flats (shown below) look like hdb flats. in fact, they were built by the hdb but the land belongs to the malaysian authorities (ktm). most of the cars in the parking lots have malaysian, mostly johor, registration plates but there are also a few singapore cars. i think the hdb has no jurisdiction here, so there is no need to display the hdb or ura coupons.
from afar, they may be mistaken for hdb flats but once you get closer, you can see that the flats have not been well taken care of. in fact, you get the feeling that the place is going to be abandoned soon. the two blocks are accessible to all and sundry. however, the area beyond the fence is out of bounds because that is where the malaysian trains are shunted.
i remember visiting this area in the 60s. i had a schoolmate whose father worked for the malayan railway. they lived in the quarters provided by the malayan railway authorities. the grey blocks of flats were given names like kedah, perlis and perak. these state name blocks have since been replaced by melati and kemuning.
how are these two blocks of flats?

Hi!
These two flats are at Spooner Road, off Kampong Bahru Road.
What Anonymous said is correct. These flats can be seen off Kampong Bahru Road.
anonymous and stanley, yes, the two blocks are at spooner road. this was also the site of the old quarters. next to it is a yellow building known as the 'm r running bungalow'. i think 'm r' stands for malaysian railway but i wonder why it is called a 'running bungalow'.
I followed your blog from Los Angeles, California. I saw the flats many times thinking they were HDB flats.
mr chew, you are holidaying in california? i didn't know they were ktm flats until i saw the signboard. we spoke to one of the cleaners and he confirmed it.
I have not seen these 2 blocks of flats that you mentioned, but they remind me of another two blocks of flats in Marsiling which I blogged about here.
chun see, i have read about the two blocks in your blog and i have seen them. the two blocks at spooner road are still occupied but come july 2011, they may become vacant.
yes, I am now in California. It's an annual affair for me while I can still travel.
