answers to old thing quiz

i came across this car at level 2 of autocare at sin ming. you can see the signal indicator called the trafficator between the two windows.

as this car was left at the workshop for either servicing or some repair work, i managed to take a picture of the large steering wheel.

this is the back view of the same car. i figure this car must have been manufactured in the late 50s or the beginning of the 60s. the vents at the rear are more the trademark of a volkswagen than a morris minor.

everybody who attempted seems to be able to identify the old thing but only don managed to get the correct term for the signal indicator. this was confirmed by victor.

'before hdb made its presence here' quiz
answers

the two photographs in the last quiz showed changi village in the late 60s. they were sent to me by the brother of my guest blogger, mdm ow.

among the many photographs of changi he sent me were also these three. one showed two unidentified caucasians at a roadside stall. the second picture showed the changi yacht club and the changi beach club. the third picture was an aerial view of changi in the early 70s.

john (jollygreen), peter and icemoon gave the right answers. victor, using the method adopted by some beauty queen, managed to answer correctly.

answers to 3-in-1 quiz
(buildings around tanglin)

question: what used to be at the corner of tanglin road and nassim hill before it became friven and company flagship store in singapore?

picture from national archives of singapore

answer: the tanglin post office

according to the 1969 guide and street directory, it would seem that the original tanglin post office - which occupied a 2-storey colonial building - was on the other side of the road, where tudor court is today. in its vicinity were a malay school and a mosque.

question: the service that was provided at this address (56 tanglin road), is it still available at the same address?

answer: yes.

postal services are still available at the tanglin post office which has been relegated to a small corner of the building.

across the road - there used to be a tanglin circus - where these blocks of modern apartments now stand there was a hotel. the hotel was known by one name when it first started, later it changed its name.

question: what were the two names?

answer: hotel malaysia and marco polo hotel.

(4) what was the name of the popular 'hawker centre' that was located behind tudor court?
