a number of these taxi stands, which have apparently outlived their usefulness are still around. i wonder why taxi stands like this one seem to have been accorded conservation status. the one at sembawang hills estate, which chun see blogged about, is still around although you hardly see any taxi near the stand.
some taxi stands have been relocated but they still retain their original names just like some schools today. for example, do not expect to find tanglin secondary school (its former name is tanglin technical school) anywhere near tanglin. it is at west coast road. likewise, beach road taxi service operates from ang mo kio and not beach road.
there are around nine such taxi stands found in different locations in singapore. today, with large taxi companies having their own communication network, i thought all these radio taxi services would have become obsolete but they are still in operation. or are they?
where is the taxi stand shown in the picture above?

Junction of Clementi and Ulu Pandan Roads?
I was going to say the same. Partly becos it's one of the few that I know about. There's one near my place near the Bt Timah - Sixth Ave junction which I think is no longer in use.
yes, pinto and chun see, it is the one at the junction of ulu pandan and clementi roads where rong guang bbq seafood is located.
I think there was one outside the Buona Vista swimming pool.
icemoon, the last time (about a year ago) i parked my car outside the swimming pool, the hut was still around.
The hut is still around, on Google Map Street View that is.
But I remember when I walked past the area to go Holland V, the hut was gone or landscape had changed drastically. There were no cabs on the road.
FYI, the site of this Ulu Pandan taxi stand used to be a sbs bus terminus too. My weekly visits with my mom to my grandma's place involved a bus 74 ride which terminated right there. The terminus was just an extended bus bay along the road to hold 3-4 buses. I remember that for our return trips home at night, we could just climb aboard the bus in the dark to take a seat while the driver had their breaks. When it was time to depart, the driver would start the engine, turn on the lights, and we would come forward to pay our fare. That was in the early 80's.
I think there is one at the carpark near the boon lay place market too.
I studied in Tangling Primary School next to Tangling Technical School when it was still near Tanglin Halt road. :o)
