It's very poisonous and no insects eat this plant. This plant causes stomach cancer. Sarawak has one of the highest rate of stomach cancer due to eating this midin fern or paku pakis.

Ptaquiloside is a norsesquiterpene glucoside produced by bracken ferns (majorly Pteridium aquilinum) during metabolism. It is identified to be the main carcinogen of the ferns and to be responsible for their biological effects, such as haemorrhagic disease and bright blindness in livestock and oesophageal, gastric cancer in humans. Ptaquiloside has unstable chemical structure and acts as a DNA alkylating agent under physiological conditions. It was first isolated and characterized by Yamada and co-workers in 1983.[2][3] The pure form ptaquiloside is a colorless amorphous compound. It is readily soluble in water and fairly soluble in ethyl acetate. Except in the plants, ptaquiloside has been detected in the milk and meat of affected livestock, as well as in the underground water and dry soil around bracken fern vegetation.[4][5][6] The prevalence of ptaquiloside in daily sources along with its carcinogenic effects make it an increasing biological hazard in modern days.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/PtaquilosideAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00518156453988451056noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7826590137201441127.post-80570897385347441772010-01-09T15:52:18.552+08:002010-01-09T15:52:18.552+08:00Fried Midin with sambal belacan. Just wondering why Mani Chai is poisonous and is not allowed for sale here when the dish is a delicacy in Malaysia.nahnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7826590137201441127.post-78453637565971778072010-01-09T14:17:34.127+08:002010-01-09T14:17:34.127+08:00Hi, just bloghopping and learnt lots of stuff rega...Hi, just bloghopping and learnt lots of stuff regarding greenery through your blog

Cheers to us bloggers :)isaachttp://isaac-lee.blogspot.com/2009/12/cruel-temptation-aka-temptation-of-wife_22.htmlnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7826590137201441127.post-28074867541922292682010-01-08T13:24:49.990+08:002010-01-08T13:24:49.990+08:00After watching Okto Dining with Death this plant i...After watching Okto Dining with Death this plant is poisonous if not prepared by expert hands.simPerBloghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15225118314199040346noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7826590137201441127.post-28025291601957059832010-01-08T12:14:23.241+08:002010-01-08T12:14:23.241+08:00chun see, i saw the giant river prawns being sold ...chun see, i saw the giant river prawns being sold at the weekend market but i have not tried them. ya, i also did not realise that the ferns were wrapped with simpoh air leaves.yghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07054865524193859788noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7826590137201441127.post-18171652332449387072010-01-08T12:12:42.603+08:002010-01-08T12:12:42.603+08:00yu-kym, they pinch off the fibrous part, near the ...yu-kym, they pinch off the fibrous part, near the bottom. some people also remove the leaves.yghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07054865524193859788noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7826590137201441127.post-76757984317597649542010-01-07T21:36:52.017+08:002010-01-07T21:36:52.017+08:00Hey, I see that they pack it in the leaves of the ...Hey, I see that they pack it in the leaves of the simpoh air.Lam Chun Seehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01762020157703342970noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7826590137201441127.post-28847092753906592832010-01-07T21:29:41.492+08:002010-01-07T21:29:41.492+08:00I find the taste so-so.
